The Dangling Participles wsg/Kendall Cassella

The Dangling Participles are a Lansing-based band with a diverse song set ranging from Americana and rock to jazz and blues. As album reviewer Ricky Olmos of Local Spins put it, “The Dangling Participles’ ‘Present’ evokes sonic images of crowded back-alley speakeasies, smokey blues bars and exotic, faraway lands. [Their album] is a genre-spanning body of work, with an inclination toward acoustic-inspired songs.”

The group’s soulful vocals—shared by Tamiko Rothhorn and Austin Kaufmann—give the group its signature sound, rich in harmonies. Instrumentally, Kaufmann anchors the group on guitar, with Tamiko adding cornet and ukulele. Tim Patterson fills out the low end on his bass, and Dan Moreno rounds out the rhythm section on drums and percussion.

The Dang Ps have been performing genre-hopping originals and fun covers throughout mid-Michigan since 2015, bringing together their love of songwriting, harmonizing, and arranging, and pairing those with a lively on-stage performance.

Zindles with Creature of One

Saturday January 19, 2019

Doors 7pm - Show 8pm - $15 -

9 pm- ZINDLES is the duo project of sibling rockers Erin Zindle and TJ Zindle. Erin & TJ have been making music together for most of their lives in one form or another. Their primary musical collaboration for the last 10 years has been with the nationally-touring folk-rock band, The Ragbirds. Now they are branching out in a new direction as a duo centered around piano and guitar. It’s a simple set up with a surprisingly big sound leaving a lot of room to dig in deep with vocal harmonies, dynamic bravado, and instrumental nuance. The two prolific songwriters contribute brand new originals, trading lead and backup roles, amplifying each other’s strengths.

8pm - Creature of One is a genre-smashing ensemble based out of Lansing, MI. Born out of that sacred space that connects each and every one of us, their music is a testimony of what it is to be human. Formed by a group of multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, they weave a tapestry from the common thread that makes up our combined existence. With the soul of world fusion, the roots of Americana, and the heart of rhythm and bass, they seek to tell the stories that make us who we are -- stories that we all share, yet experience in our own unique way.

The Rolling Hills (guitar player/vocalist/songwriter Barrett Miller and violist Alisa Dyer) owe their collaboration to a 2017 Windwalker Underground Gallery Open Mic night. Their passion for making music together radiates through their performance.

Barrett is self-taught and has been writing songs since he was a toddler. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and has developed his unique style within various genres including punk, hard rock, folk, and indie rock. He also plays the piano, bass, clarinet, and drums. A classically trained violist, Alisa has played for most of her life. She enjoys playing all styles of music but very much enjoys slow, sad sounding stuff in an easy key.

The duo, influenced by Barrett's lyrics, have a sometimes aggressive, sometimes melancholy, sometimes sweet, totally unique sound that is supremely powerful - and a LOT of fun.

Lucas Holliday with Gabe Hammes wsg Clint Dickerson

Tickets $10 - https://bpt.me/3615781

From doo wop to hip hop, and all the soul, jazz, funk, rhythm and blues in between, there isn't much that Lucas has not done with his voice. The Lansing native has been singing since he was just out of diapers, and has been entertaining crowds his whole life at different venues in a wide range of styles. However, no matter what stage he steps on, he feels most at home doing what he loves.

Lucas' most recent venture has involved leading the funky groove band Tell Yo Mama in song for nearly four years, but he has done much more in the last couple. In November of 2016, a week after a video featuring him singing while working at Dollar General went viral across the nation, the 26 year-old singing cashier appeared on Good Morning America. Merely days after that, he joined one of his idols, neo soul legend Maxwell, onstage at The Palace in Auburn Hills before 20,000 guests. And within a year, he was auditioning in L.A., vocalizing for Jennifer Hudson, and competing in the thirteenth season of NBC's The Voice.

After making the top 24 out of 40,000+ contestants, Lucas flew back to Michigan and began pursuing his music career full-time. While he still plays with Tell Yo Mama as his main focus, the soul singer has been perfecting his craft as a solo act for a long time. Despite the challenges of the starving artist's life, this one is eager to stay the course to wherever it may lead him, as long as it always leads him home.

Gabe Hammes is a 13-year-old boy who loves to play music. He plays the guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and he sings. His goal one day is to tour all around the world and record multiple cd's. He has had many opportunities to play at venues, coffee shops, and church's. He credits Mr. Joshua Hicks and his family for giving him encouragement, love, and lessons. He also credits Clint Dickerson for helping grow his musical career. His first single "Always There" was written about his Grandpa who had died when he was only 4 years old but his memories still and will always have a place in his heart. His is fun and enthusiastic heart that he brings to the stage is something people look forward to when they go to his shows.

Jonathan Watt's music can be described as a blend of soulful Americana and Roots-Rock, with a dash of foot-stompin' Bluegrass, garnished with bluesy harmonica. Jonathan weaves together lyrics to tell well-crafted and insightful stories, from funny and light-hearted to heart-wrenching and fervid. Jonathan has been honing his musical skills for nearly 20 year, playing multiple instruments including fiddle, guitar, upright bass, mandolin and harmonica. He proudly calls Lansing, MI his home!

Forged from the fiery chasm of an autumn campfire somewhere in Michigan, Mike Bass brings you face-melting acoustic tunes. Using a combination of strumming, finger-picking, snapping, elvish rope, and percussion, this singing/songwriting fool will sweep you off your feet in both English and Japanese

Matthew Shannon is a local Lansing musician who has played in various bands over the last 20 years. He is currently an instructor at the Frandor Guitar Center, and teaches pretty much anything with strings on it. Matthew is also embarking on his first attempt at a solo career, with the hopes of working together with the Lansing community to help bring attention to the overwhelming amount of talent within the capital city through collaborations. He considers, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, and Nickel Creek his main influences in his songwriting. You can usually find him at various open-mics in the greater Lansing area.

Windwalker Presents: Lyn Sawicki with Michael Iott
Saturday Septmeber 22
Doors 7 pm/ Show 8 pm

Tickets $10: https://bpt.me/3574190

Local singer/songwriter Lyn Sawicki is an accomplished songsmith who delivers hard-earned wisdom with earthy emotion. Her songs are good companions for traversing what must be left behind to reach a new life-affirming place. She spins songs like she turns pottery, into practical vessels artfully crafted to carry nourishment for the soul.
Lyn’s melodic and versatile convergence of folk, acoustic and indie originality provide the texture for a collection of lyrical stories about the unfolding of the human heart, and the courage it takes to reclaim lost, neglected or dormant parts of ourselves in the pursuit of completion.

Mike Iott is a long-time singer/songwiter from the greater Lansing area. Formerly preforming and recording as Medicine Crow, he has recently jettisoned that stage name begun using his given name. His original music tends toward the topical rather than the romantic and he writes and sings about all of those "touchy subjects" that we are told to avoid when in polite company.
