Summer Fire Flow Jam Series

Welcome to the Summer Fire Flow Jam Series hosted by Yours Truly!

A fire flow jam is when a group of fire dance performers get together and dance with fire into the night. I imagine you've seen these sort of performances at the Michigan Nordic Fire Festival and even the Magical Realm Fantasy Faire! Well, guess what!! With a big thank you to the City of Charlotte and Windwalker Underground Gallery for sponsoring the event, you can experience the exotic nature of fire dancing this summer in downtown Charlotte!

Catch us on one or all of these dates:
June 22
July 20
August 24
September 21

Event is family friendly! Be sure to dress appropriately and bring a comfy chair to sit in! The Fire Flow Jams will take place in the parking lot behind Windwalker Underground Gallery in front of Brenda's Dance & Gymnastics from 9 to 10:30 pm (possible start delay depending on when it gets dark). The fire jam is immediately followed by an Open Flow Jam where our audience members can experiment with various circus props, maybe learn a few things from our performers, and get a picture or two with them!

Acoustic Liberty wsg Amber Cordell

Saturday July 27th
7pm
$10

The night will kick off with a special featuring Amber Cordell and Ron McKeever: Ron began playing guitar at the age of four. During the early years his first love was Bluegrass music. In later years his interests included many other styles of music which lead to learning other instruments such as; banjo, mandolin, octave mandolin and Irish bouzouki. This all come in handy when he met his current duo partner Amber Cordell at Windwalker Underground Gallery. Amber Cordell grew up singing in church and community theater in Mississippi. Since moving to Michigan, she has sung in a few bands, but she only took up playing guitar about 2 and a half years ago (at age forty compared to Ron’s age four) in order to sing at her friends’ wedding. Thank goodness she came to Windwalker’s open mic and struck up a conversation with Ron McKeever with whom she is honored to play.

Acoustic Liberty- A tasty blend of folk music styles -- from rock to country, blues to bluegrass, gospel to funk, and old-timey sea shanties to new originals... with a dash of Cajun.… “Free-range Americana” Appearing with Acoustic Liberty: Ron McKeever - guitar and octave mandolin, Dave Dowling: vocals, banjo, fiddle, and guitar, Dianne Pfost: cajon/percussion, LeRoy Harvey guitar and vocals, Elizabeth Loring bass and vocals. Members of Acoustic Liberty have enjoyed regular encounters with Windwalker from its inceptions (or soon after) and remain loyal patrons!

An Evening with Mark Lavengood Trio

An Evening with Mark Lavengood Trio
Friday August 2
7pm
$15

Join us as we welcome the notorious "Huggy Bear" for his debut on the Windwalker stage Friday August 2nd. This will be an intimate evening with good music and good vibes. Get your tickets online or in the Gallery before they are gone!

Mark Lavengood is a walking, talking ray of sunshine. His resonant energy and sparkling smile light up every stage, every studio, every room, RV and embrace he enters. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Lavengood specializes in dobro & steel guitar, both of which he's played for over a decade, while also being well-versed in guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, drums, and a variety of percussion instruments. In 2012, Mark was named winner of the acclaimed Rockygrass Dobro Competition hosted at Planet Bluegrass’ headquarters in Lyons, CO. Predominantly as a dobro player, Lavengood toured world-wide for 7 years with the award-winning Michigan-now-Nashville-based Americana outfit Lindsay Lou (formerly, & the Flatbellys), performing at a bucket list of venues and festivals over his time with the band. Both as a member of LLFB and as frontman of his namesake, Mark has performed at: the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, ROMP, Celtic Connections, Blissfest, Wheatland Music Festival, Founders Brewing Company's signature events; Black Party, Harvest Party & Founders Fest, Cowpie Music Festival, John Hartford Memorial Festival, Farmfest, Earthwork Harvest Gathering, International Folk Alliance, IBMA, and many, many more. He’s also shared the stage performing with or sitting in with the likes of Seth Bernard, Amy Helm, the Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass, Billy Strings, Johnny Irion, Gregory Stovetop, and Trout Steak Revival, amongst others. At each stop along the way, whether on tour, in the studio, or passing you on the street, Mark's positivity and genuine warmth is an immediate captivator. His selfless and gregarious nature has allowed him to collaborate, write and record with some hall-of-fame worthy talents. Cutting his teeth in the art and music meccas of Ann Arbor & Nashville, Lavengood has recently returned to his native home, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a new, adorable family and a head full of ambition in tow. Since returning to GR, a burgeoning art and music scene in its own right, Lavengood has 'narrowed' his focus to his main, namesake project, as well as teaching and developing education platforms, mentoring, writing, recording, growing a music business (Bear Mark Productions) and of course, performing. A natural showman, Mark has released three full-length, critically-acclaimed records, the most recent with the Michigan-based Earthwork Music Collective

Women Giving Together Eaton County

We are a local women’s philanthropic group who collectively support nonprofit organizations in Eaton County Michigan.
Our fun & effective meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday evenings of February, May, August, and November.
Each member brings a check for $50 to each meeting, which will be made payable to the selected nonprofit charity receiving the most votes that evening by the entire group in attendance. Three charities (from those who have applied) are selected at each meeting from a random drawing to present at each subsequent meeting. From those presentations, members vote and the top vote-getter receives all of the donations.
When we reach one hundred women giving together, it adds up to $20,000 per year! What a difference we can make in our community!

The Dangling Participles wsg/Kendall Cassella

The Dangling Participles are a Lansing-based band with a diverse song set ranging from Americana and rock to jazz and blues. As album reviewer Ricky Olmos of Local Spins put it, “The Dangling Participles’ ‘Present’ evokes sonic images of crowded back-alley speakeasies, smokey blues bars and exotic, faraway lands. [Their album] is a genre-spanning body of work, with an inclination toward acoustic-inspired songs.”

The group’s soulful vocals—shared by Tamiko Rothhorn and Austin Kaufmann—give the group its signature sound, rich in harmonies. Instrumentally, Kaufmann anchors the group on guitar, with Tamiko adding cornet and ukulele. Tim Patterson fills out the low end on his bass, and Dan Moreno rounds out the rhythm section on drums and percussion.

The Dang Ps have been performing genre-hopping originals and fun covers throughout mid-Michigan since 2015, bringing together their love of songwriting, harmonizing, and arranging, and pairing those with a lively on-stage performance.

Zindles with Creature of One

Saturday January 19, 2019

Doors 7pm - Show 8pm - $15 -

9 pm- ZINDLES is the duo project of sibling rockers Erin Zindle and TJ Zindle. Erin & TJ have been making music together for most of their lives in one form or another. Their primary musical collaboration for the last 10 years has been with the nationally-touring folk-rock band, The Ragbirds. Now they are branching out in a new direction as a duo centered around piano and guitar. It’s a simple set up with a surprisingly big sound leaving a lot of room to dig in deep with vocal harmonies, dynamic bravado, and instrumental nuance. The two prolific songwriters contribute brand new originals, trading lead and backup roles, amplifying each other’s strengths.

8pm - Creature of One is a genre-smashing ensemble based out of Lansing, MI. Born out of that sacred space that connects each and every one of us, their music is a testimony of what it is to be human. Formed by a group of multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, they weave a tapestry from the common thread that makes up our combined existence. With the soul of world fusion, the roots of Americana, and the heart of rhythm and bass, they seek to tell the stories that make us who we are -- stories that we all share, yet experience in our own unique way.
